Where do I put my focus point when taking photographs of a group of people and get everyone in focus?

-What is the best shooting mode to use* If your camera has Matrix Metering, then best is set it to Matrix Meter 1st..

* Depending on your subject/group distance have an aperture at around f/9-f/14

* Focus on the middle person of the group

* Try to have a lowish shutter speed (or set the camera to aperture priority)

* Instead of using flash, try to have external lighting, say lighting on both sides of the group and not only on 1 side.. (This is very important to bring everyone in equal focus)

* Try to have Non Reflecting surfaces near, say a white table in front or something like that...
This is a question about depth of field, I suggest you have a look at the free video lesson about depth of field on this site http://mccordall.com/ it will tell you all you need to know about where to focus
Some camera have face capture mode. So, those are very easy to use.

Or you can use scene mode to focus all around.

If you focus only a point, it would blur other places.
