Help with portfolio for art?

-Ok, really stupid question, but i haven't done art for ages lol so i can't remember things...

In this portfolio i have to do, it says i need to do a 'series of sketches of figures in action modes: eg jumping, running, fighting etc.'

i not sure what a Series of sketches means exactly

is it like, drawing a few sketches of the same thing but so it looks the figure is moving?

or does it just mean, draw alot of sketches of figures in different action modes?

i feel kind of embarrassed for not knowing :S haha

its for an animation course...

i would have done art at school if i realised i wanted to do this last year... but oh well :p

also do the figures have to have detail? like facial expressions? people aren't exactly my strong point...Hi there

It's not a stupid question actually as if you hadn't mentioned it was for a animation course I would've leaned towards 'draw a lot of sketches of figures in different action modes'

you are correct about both but for this portfolio I will say to draw them out as if they are in motion. you want at least 3 to 5 different series of sketches.

They would also like to see some concept work and character design as this course will involve with you designing your own animation from scratch. so I would say in your sketches don't be too worried about detail, just make it clear enough to see, but add some drawings with facial expressions and perspective art.
