Is using ladies nylons comparable to a 350ct mesh for silkscreening?

-I need to print something that requires a thread count somewhere between 300-350. Most pre-made screens with that fine of thread count are out of my price range considering how many i need. I'd like to make them myself but I was wondering if there was some type of material i could use for the mesh other than what major websites offer. A few friends suggested womens' pantyhose- has anyone done anything like this before? I'm printing onto metal, a space approximately 2 x 5 inches. Thanks!Pantihose stretch and I don't think the results will be even if you prestretch. If the cost is too high for that small a region how can you afford the ink and frames?
